Synopsis

At the dawn of time, the Primordial God Pangu cleaved the chaos apart with a mighty blow. The chaos divided, yin and yang separated, and the five elements emerged. The clear and light rose to become the heavens, forming the sun, moon, and stars; the heavy and turbid sank to become the earth, forming mountains, rivers, and streams. With the beginning of heaven and earth, life took shape and all things were born. The primeval world gradually came into being. Moved by the will of Heaven, Nuwa took sacred clay, and humanity first appeared. Thereafter, the realms of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity flourished in peace and harmony. But the good times did not last. One day, a heavenly calamity struck without warning. The sky split open, and the waters of the Celestial River poured down from above, flooding the human realm without end. Seeing that the living beings of the human realm had nowhere to shelter, Nuwa could not bear it. She resolved to forge five-colored stones at the Wujie Cliff on Mount Dahuang and mend the sky. When Fuxi heard the news, he went in person to the Eastern Sea, slew a giant turtle, and took its legs to support the four corners of the world, aiding Nuwa in repairing the sky. Only through the combined efforts of the two sovereigns was the collapse of the heavens temporarily halted and the floodwaters brought to a standstill. Before long, the rift in the sky was fully repaired. The Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and Vermilion Bird, four divine beasts born from primordial chaos, swore brotherhood. They then joined forces to subdue the demons and fiends of the Four Seas and Eight Wastes, compelling them to submit, and together wreaked havoc across the Three Realms. Fearing the four divine beasts, the demons and fiends of the Four Seas and Eight Wastes successively pledged allegiance to them in order to protect themselves. With their strength multiplied, the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and Vermilion Bird grew consumed by ambition. They sought to unify the Three Realms and become the supreme rulers of Heaven and Earth. The Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and Vermilion Bird ordered the demons and fiends of the Four Seas and Eight Wastes to join forces and slaughter the tribes of humanity. The human tribes could not withstand them and were nearly wiped out.
