Now that I’m past thirty, I want a little daughter more than ever. But the world is full of dangers and uncertainty, and there are so many troubles. I’m already worrying before even becoming a father.

Writing this book has also meant recording everything I’ve experienced, encountered, heard, and seen on the road to fatherhood. I’ve read the Confucian classics, the Daoist way of following nature, and the Buddhist teachings of compassion. I’ve written a hundred thousand words, then a hundred thousand more, hoping this book can stand the test of time. Life is no more than a journey into the mountains, and its ups and downs are only natural. I only hope that someday, you won’t be bound by convention, and that this book might offer you one more path into the mountains...
