Ideal Country Translation Series 017: Auschwitz: A History

After reading the book, I had a big doubt: Why is it anti-Semitic? According to the explanation in the book, European history has a tradition of discriminating against Jews. In a large number of dramas, operas and even novels, Jews are portrayed as profit-seeking profiteers. This is most perfectly presented in Shakespeare's plays. When the German "Einsatzgruppe" shot and killed 100 Jews, the execution members fell into deep remorse and fear. In the words of their commander, these people are finished and they will be in pain for the rest of their lives. In order to "kill at a distance" and reduce the psychological burden of the massacres, and to cover up this "uncivilized" behavior and maintain Germany's appearance as a "civilized country", "Auschwitz" was established. Among the survivors of Auschwitz, a large number of them survived because of their work. Another name is: a different kind of accomplice. In that era, they had only one purpose, and that was to survive. In Auschwitz, both prisoners and guards lost all traces of civilization and upbringing, and returned to their most authentic and self-sufficient state - naked humanity.

"Maintaining an open mind is the only way to face the era of complexity and rapid change." In this book, the author uses the Auschwitz concentration camp as an entry point, and the focus of his narrative is not on how cruel and contrary to human nature this Jewish extermination camp was, but on describing how in this extreme environment, whether it was the officials who carried out the killings or the innocent children who were imprisoned overnight, the complexity of human nature has always been the focus of the author's discussion. The author hopes to use this book to warn us: be interested in the richness and complexity of the world itself, and sincerely desire to understand the experiences of others.

The entire book tells the entire history of Auschwitz's development and its final demise in chapters. The millions of living beings here are like parts, objects, and livestock to be slaughtered. Here I saw what kind of hell people find themselves in in a society that lacks emotion. During the entire war, Europe was suffering from hunger, war, and death for a long time. All orders have been rebuilt, and people's values and morals have been distorted to a certain extent. Even after Auschwitz was liberated, some victims even suffered secondary injuries. They did not end their lives in hell because of the rescue, but fell into another hell. This is really uncomfortable.

This book interpreted Auschwitz from a new perspective and gave me a deeper understanding of that period of history. Every story in the book is thought-provoking and made me realize the complexity of human nature. The author's research is very in-depth, and he refers to a large number of historical records and interviews with eyewitnesses, making this book of high academic value. It reminds me of "Schindler's List", both of which are profound depictions of suffering and redemption during World War II. I recommend everyone to read this book, you will definitely gain a lot.

This book attempts to use a specific place as an entry point to give the most thorough explanation of the most serious crime in human history, which is Auschwitz. History is not a script, there is always more than one truth. Auschwitz is not an extermination camp specifically used to kill Jews, nor is it only related to the "Final Solution" - Auschwitz is the struggle history of concentration camp commander Hoss and other Nazi officials; it is the emotional purgatory of Poles, Gypsies, Soviet prisoners of war, and Jehovah's Witnesses; it is the story of an eight-year-old German girl who got up one day and suddenly It is the story of a survivor who returned to his hometown after the war, only to find that the outside world is worse than Auschwitz... There is no isolated evidence in this book. Every word spoken comes from more than two historical records, including declassified files after the collapse of the Soviet Union and interviews with eyewitnesses.

A book that you won't want to put down once you read it. The description is vivid, the scene is restored, and it touches the deepest part of human nature. Looking back on history, I hope everyone can read this book and avoid the recurrence of similar tragedies. The translation is very good, smooth and not obscure at all. Thank you!

Sometimes I don't want to look back on history, maybe because I can't bear to look back, maybe because when there is a better future, the past will no longer matter, or maybe it's because the past was too tragic. In my limited brain capacity, I think Auschwitz is just like this. It is a notorious place and a history that cannot be looked back on. However, there are always different interpretations of the past, every object, and every period of history. This book gave me a different understanding of Auschwitz. It is not just the terrible concentration camp in my inherent knowledge. There are people here, there is history, and it is more humane. The purpose of reviewing history is to reproduce history, but it cannot stay in history. It is more about bringing people's thinking now. It uses a piece of history to reveal a past that is unwilling to look back, and also shows the significance of looking back.

There are many books about Auschwitz, and this one is a very classic one. This book uses a specific place as the starting point to provide the most thorough explanation of the most serious crimes in human history. The shocking sentence is that history is not a script, and there is always more than one truth. The description of history in the book is supported by more than two historical data, which is very reliable. Because of its reliability, it becomes even more sad, because these bloody and painful words actually happened.
