The Hidden Beauty of the Secret Lover

Rumors spread through the capital that the women-averse Marquis of Huai'an was keeping a pretty concubine outside his household, and that she was already pregnant. Everyone said she was clever, using a child to secure her place. No one knew that she was actually Liang Hanyu's lawful wife, whom he had married properly while suffering from amnesia.

Feng Yiyan followed Liang Hanyu to the unfamiliar capital. She had thought they would grow old together. Though the people in the marquis's household were only superficially cordial and made life difficult for her behind her back, she endured it all. She never imagined that all she would get in return was suspicion and hurt.

“How can you prove the child you're carrying is mine?”

“You're nothing but a merchant's daughter, greedy for the wealth and splendor of the marquis's household!”

Later, she died in childbirth. He held their child and knelt before her coffin for three days and nights without eating a single grain of rice. Everyone said the Marquis of Huai'an had gone mad, making a dead concubine his principal wife.

When Liang Hanyu saw that familiar figure again, he rushed over, clutching the child, eyes red, and called out, “Madam!” But the woman merely smiled as she took the arm of the man beside her. “Have you mistaken me for someone else, sir? Everyone knows your first wife died in despair the day you divorced her.”
