This book is great! Zweig is such a genius! With his unique perspective and poetic language, he depicts the moments that changed history. I especially like the battle of Waterloo. Zweig vividly demonstrated the tension of war and Napoleon's mistakes. I also admire his respect and awe for history. This book made me see the greatness and insignificance of human beings. I recommend it to you, it is worth reading!
This is the second time I have read this book, and I still enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Zweig's writing style is beautiful and natural. While highly restoring historical facts, he also added his own unique creations. The style of writing is also eclectic, incorporating the forms of stage plays and poetry. Many foreign masterpieces have a more or less awkward feeling caused by cultural differences in translation, but this book does not feel like this when I read it. I couldn't stop reading it. The first book I read that felt that way was The Kite Runner. The second one is this book.
This work uses one historical story after another to form a picture of destiny, sometimes great and sometimes tragic. Fate never favors anyone, but only fills the gap in the end, and only brave people can become the creators of this gap.
This is undoubtedly a good work. The serial stories are like the protagonists in an opera. They use their lives to exchange articles worth remembering, which is unforgettable.
