The eight classes of heavenly dragons and other beings in Buddhist scriptures are collectively called the Eight Legions. The Lotus Sutra records: “The devas, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas are the Eight Legions.” Buddhist scriptures do not explain their origins, but here, their beginnings are recorded.
