A Brief History of Hungary

Hungary is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, situated on the plains of the middle Danube, known as the Hungarian Plain, at roughly the same latitude as northeastern China. Located at the crossroads of Eastern and Western civilizations, Hungary blends features of both. It was the first stop in Europe for Chinese travelers along the Silk Road, and the Hungarian Plain was also an important trading hub on the ancient Silk Route. In addition, several nomadic peoples from northern China migrated to the Hungarian Plain over the centuries, including the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Turks, and Mongols. Written in an accessible and engaging style, this book traces major events that profoundly shaped Hungarian civilization, supplemented with material on its economy, culture, politics, and society. It outlines the basic course of Hungarian history and invites readers to experience the country’s unique appeal.
