Four Books and Five Classics

The Four Books and the Five Classics, collectively known as the Four Books and the Five Classics, are the nine classic works of Confucianism. The "Four Books" refer to the Analects, the Great Learning, the Doctrine of the Mean, and Mencius, and the "Five Classics" refer to the Book of Songs, Shangshu, Book of Rites, Zhouyi, and Zuozhuan. It took a long time for them to achieve the status of "classic". The "Four Books and Five Classics" published this time is one of the "Chinese Classics Popular Library", with a white text proofread. In order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of its text, the "Four Books" is based on Zhu Xi's "Annotations on Four Books" ("Great Learning Chapters", "Zhongyong Chapters", "Analects of Confucius", and "Annotations on Yingzi") published by Zhonghua Book Company; the "Book of Songs" is based on "Annotations on the Book of Songs" published by Zhonghua Book Company, with reference to Mr. Zhou Zhenfu's "Translation and Annotation of the Book of Songs" ; "Shangshu" is based on the Chinese version of "Commentaries on the Thirteen Classics" and collated other types of printed editions; "Book of Rites" is based on "The Interpretation of the Book of Rites" published by Zhonghua Book Company; "Book of Changes" is based on "Commentary on the Thirteen Classics" published by Zhonghua Book Company, and collated other typed editions; "Zuo Zhuan" is based on Yang Bojun's "Zuo Zhuan Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals" published by Zhonghua Book Company.
