Looking for High-Quality Historical Fiction. No Mindless Power Trips or Brain-Dead Plotting
I want high-quality historical fiction that’s engaging and doesn’t dumb things down or rely on brainless plots. It can be satisfying, but don’t treat readers like idiots. No stories like the one where the protagonist fools Cao Cao’s quartermaster about the provisions from the start, or those where a literati protagonist suddenly has the strength of a tyrant. They’re unoriginal and mindless...

Looking for books like I and the Temple of Earth (Illustrated Edition). Does anyone on Tomato have any classic books to recommend? I used to enjoy I and the Temple of Earth, as well as books by Yu Hua. Any recommendations along those lines? I haven't been able to get into romance novels lately. I want to read

The writing style of this book is very unique, the writing is smooth, and the historical details are vividly described, which made me feel like I was in that changing era. I especially like the author's portrayal of the character of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. His talents, strategies and complex character are all portrayed very penetratingly. However, I kind of hate the character Wei Qing, I feel like he's a bit selfish. Overall, this is a great book worth reading!
It's more detailed than what's told on TV, and it also explains clearly some plots that haven't been filmed in TV dramas. It's worth watching.
Great book! It's smooth and layered, and makes readers happy. The description of historical figures is very good and the major historical events are described very clearly, but there is always a feeling in my heart and the article jumps quickly.
Recommended, oh yes, that's it
It is true and objective, and the description is very detailed. It is worth recommending.
The history is well written and I enjoy reading it.
Good looking horse and good horse
Well written and vivid plot.
A very good historical novel.
The story is quite lively and interesting, with distinct and full characters. It has both grand history and the joys and sorrows of small characters.
