His father mysteriously disappears, and he transmigrates to the Ming dynasty. With no other choice, Zhu Gu has to rely on his cooking skills and work as a chef to earn enough to get by. Then one day, a strange customer called Old Zhu shows up at his shop and keeps asking him odd questions. “How should the Ming dynasty develop its economy?” “What do you think is the biggest problem behind the Ming dynasty's fiscal deficit?” “The emperor has so many sons. Which one do you think will inherit the throne?” Faced with all these strange questions, Zhu Gu gets angry. “If you weren't paying me so well, I wouldn't even bother answering you!” But just as Zhu Gu finally scrapes together enough money and prepares to set out in search of his father, Old Zhu shows up again. Old Zhu: “I'll come clean. I'm your father. Your father is Zhu Yuanzhang!”
