The Crime of Innocence

Ten years ago, a group of burly men barged into Jian Jing's home and took her mother away without a word. When Jian Jing found her, her mother was standing dazed in the middle of the road. A large truck came barreling toward her, and Jian Jing's mother was crushed beneath its wheels. Jian Jing let out her first cry in eighteen years.

Another family took away Jian Jing's mother's body and buried her as someone else.

Ten years later, Jian Jing, now a reporter, witnessed the nightmare from a decade ago all over again.

Jian Jing investigated further and discovered that the people who had taken her mother were members of the Red Scorpion organization. As she continued her investigation, the truth about what happened ten years ago began to emerge.

Mo Yuanhong was a beauty famous throughout the county, charming and coquettish, with countless admirers. After weighing her options, she married Wu Sen, the son of Wu Bai, a local entrepreneur. They had a daughter, Yuying, but Mo Yuanhong never gave up her extravagant ways. On a shopping trip to the provincial capital, she happened to run into her former boyfriend.

Learning that her ex-boyfriend had since become successful, Mo Yuanhong bitterly regretted having bet on the wrong man. Still, thinking of her husband and daughter at home, she always kept to her marriage vows.

Her ex-boyfriend held no grudge and readily granted her every favor. Whenever Mo Yuanhong argued with her husband, Wu Sen, over his laziness, incompetence, and their financial troubles, her ex would patiently comfort her and take her out to eat, drink, and have fun. Until one day, he handed Mo Yuanhong a packet of powder and told her to coax Wu Sen into taking it.
