However, the collapse of the empire did not end the war, and the newly established defense government still held firm in Paris. The people of Paris suffered from shelling and hunger, and the French army's breakout and siege operations suffered disastrous failures. The defense government finally chose to humiliate Prussia and sue for peace. Anger and disappointment triggered the Commune Uprising that shocked the world.
