Sanxingdui

The Sanxingdui site is located on the south bank of the Duck River northwest of Nanxing Town, Guanghan City, Sichuan Province. It is 40 kilometers away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, to the south, seven kilometers from Guanghan City to the east, and three kilometers from Nanxing Town. It is a Bronze Age site in southwest my country. It is a huge site group composed of many ancient cultural relics. It is named after three loess mounds that stand out on the Chengdu Plain. Sanxingdui was first discovered in 1929. At the beginning of the excavation in 1986, archaeological experts discovered a large number of strange and wonderful bronze human heads, masks, bronze ritual vessels and jade artifacts in two mysterious artifact pits. This discovery immediately caused a sensation around the world, and the Sanxingdui site was hailed as one of the most important archaeological discoveries at that time. Since the unearthed cultural relics were not found in any written records, the Sanxingdui culture became a huge mystery, and speculation and controversy began. In January 1988, the site group was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit. In August 1992, the foundation stone of Sanxingdui Ruins Museum was laid, and it was completed in October 1997 and officially opened to the public.
