"Shangshu" was written about 3,000 years ago during the Warring States Period. It is China's oldest imperial collection, and is China's first collection of ancient historical documents and some works that recount ancient deeds. It preserves some important historical materials from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, especially the early Western Zhou Dynasty. Its basic content is ancient emperors' proclamations and military ministers' conversations. At first it was called "Shu", and in the Han Dynasty it was called "Shangshu", which means "Book of Antiquity". After the Han Dynasty, "Shangshu" became one of the important classics of Confucianism, so it was also called "Shu Jing".

"Shangshu" is a very valuable book. It is like a knowledgeable old friend, telling us stories about ancient China. Some of the famous aphorisms in the book, such as "Keeping one's virtues under control, one must be close to the nine ethnic groups", reminded me of the way relatives and friends get along with each other. We should, as the book says, cultivate noble moral character and be close to family and friends. This book not only allows us to understand history, but also gives us inspiration in life. It is really a classic worth reading!
