"Characters" is a metaphysical work that systematically appreciates the talents of characters and was written by Liu Shao during the Cao Wei Dynasty. It analyzes a person's inner character traits through the external performance of nine aspects: spirit, essence, tendons, bones, energy, color, appearance, appearance, and speech. It also uses the mean as a criterion to classify people with different personalities and talents into twelve types of "partial talents". For example, "excellent and cautious" people are respectful and rigorous, but have many doubts; "strong regularity and strong energy" people are able to be the mainstay, but are domineering and stubborn. "Characters" explains twelve different professions suitable for them based on twelve different categories of talents... And so on.
