Isn't It Perfectly Reasonable for a Mage to Fight Hand-to-Hand the Whole Time?

In a parallel world, reality and the game world merge. The world begins to change, and the game’s rules become reality. Terra descends, forming a binary star system with Earth. Blessed by Terra, everyone can awaken their aptitude, choose a class, fight monsters, level up, and grow stronger. Some choose to become swordsmen, wielding fierce sword intent to cleave the sky. Some choose to become assassins, then advance to necromancers and summon the dead to fight. Some choose to become mages, elegantly striking enemies from a distance with ranged attacks. Keeping your distance from enemies is a basic tenet of being a mage, but Liu Yu says, “Not me!” Ding! Class Planning System loaded. Change class to Melee Mage! If a mage doesn’t fight at close range, can you even call him a mage? “He’s lost it! Mages these days are willing to get right in your face!” “That’s way too arrogant! Does he really think the swordsman opposite him is a pushover?” “My God, he’s a mage, and he’s beating the swordsman so badly in close combat that he can’t even land!” The colonizers: “How can a monster like this appear in Longguo when we’ve cut off their resources?” The monsters on Terra: “You took my god-tier spell head-on without even getting a scratch? Fine, you be the monster!”
