Victor Hugo’s Memoirs

This book records Victor Hugo's observations, experiences, feelings, and reflections over nearly fifty years, from 1823 to 1871. Le Figaro praised it as “one of the documentary records of nineteenth-century French history.” In this epic work, Victor Hugo chronicles and incisively analyzes a series of momentous historical events, including the coup of 18 Brumaire, the Napoleonic Wars, the Bourbon Restoration, the July Revolution of 1830, the June Days uprising of 1848, the Franco-Prussian War, and the Paris Commune uprising.
