History of Drugs: A Century of Feud Between the United States and Mexico

This book takes as its starting point the shocking 2014 massacre of 43 students, revealing a glimpse of the Mexican drug empire that took shape over the course of a century, especially the truth behind the joint efforts by the United States and Mexico to combat Mexican drug crime since 2006. Mexico has ideal conditions for growing drugs and borders the United States, one of the world's largest drug-consuming nations. Drug traffickers sell drugs and buy weapons, using violence against one another while also bribing judicial officials, police, and even the military, leading to political corruption and widespread hardship. Combined with lingering problems from the country's history and the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement, Mexico has become deeply entangled in the drug economy. The author seeks to reveal why the drug war is causing ever more harm, and what is wrong with drug policy.
