By describing Wei Zhongxian's experience, the author shows the darkness of officialdom and the cruelty of competition at that time. The book also depicts many heroic "Donglin Party" people, and I admire their persistence very much. The origin of the "eunuch" group also gave me a lot of knowledge. Overall, this is a good historical read. As the book says, "Under the imperial power system in ancient my country, the admission and promotion system for officials was already very strict." However, Wei Zhongxian was able to climb from a country boy to a high position, which shows that he does have certain means.
A relatively objective book, there is no such behavior as forcing one to state a certain point of view.
Shouldn't Wei Zhongxian be killed? Many people feel that he cannot be killed, at least to check and balance the Donglin Party. They feel that he raises an army and cannot be killed at that point.
