Synopsis

Frederick Lewis Allen was one of the pioneers of social history writing. Through vivid depictions of news, fashion, and customs, he portrays and explains some of the changes that transformed the pace and shape of American life over half a century.

The Big Change is the author's most ambitious book, defining a moment of transformation in American history. Allen celebrates a new economic system that brought prosperity to the American people and offers an implicit, thought-provoking perspective on the events of the second half of the twentieth century.

The Big Change is divided into three main parts. The first, “The Old Order,” depicts the wealthy interfering in national politics, with the federal government largely submitting to commercial interests as the gap between rich and poor widened. The second, “The Forces of Change,” describes the forces that gradually transformed the nation's traditions as it entered the twentieth century: mass production, the Great Depression and big government, World War II, and the rise of the United States as a world power. Against this backdrop, the author shows how the economic system could be reformed without being destroyed. The concluding section, “The New America,” offers a hopeful assessment of postwar American culture, as Allen analyzes many widespread issues of critical importance.

You Really Love Male Leads. Any Books Without One? 📖

Those titles like "Training My Dog of a Man", "Having a Child for the Emperor Who Cannot Have Heirs", and "The Pampered Wife of the CEO" claim they’re just about romance, but they use someone else’s body and never even mention it. They say there’s no revenge or punishing villains, but then they use that person’s body to date their enemies? Seriously?

Looking for a Book

I read a book several years ago and forgot the title. The male lead's surname was Chu, and the heroine's nickname was A Ke. It was a pretty funny transmigration story. The heroine had to make the male lead say “I love you” before she could return to reality. I think they both ended up going back to reality together.
