When night fell, I sat alone on the steps at the school gate, on the Wutai platform, looking down over all of Yangling. Our school sits at the highest point in Yangling. I remember that when I first started last year, a teacher told us that looking down at Yangling from Mount Wutai would make you feel ambitious. But whenever I stand here and look down, all I feel is how insignificant I am, and how fragile life can be. Lang Nuo, Lang Nuo, you know that I’ve been a melancholy, sorrowful child since I was little. Today, I’m touching this northern city from so close, yet I still can’t fit in or find the understanding I ought to share with it. I know that in two years, I still won’t be able to stop myself from fleeing this city, just as I once fled our hometown, lost yet determined. Like two intersecting lines, we meet, then leave without looking back.
This "Girl's Diary" reminds me of my youth. The scenes and emotions depicted in the book are very real and made me feel the same way. Like the protagonists in the book, we all have felt lost and vulnerable growing up. However, by reading this book, I also realized that even if there are many uncertainties in life, we can still maintain that persistence and courage. This is a good book that can resonate with people. I recommend it to everyone!
