On Kepler-24, the idea of a human hierarchy is an enormous chasm, as if carved into people’s very bones. Varoga, an immigrant from Earth, should have belonged among the pinnacle of humanity. Instead, by a cruel twist of fate, he was assigned to the lowly, dust-like Aisman faction. Here, he witnesses suffering beyond what ordinary people can bear.
