Throughout the Eastern Han dynasty, the Qiang rebellion lasted for a hundred years. The Qiang were already in revolt before the Eastern Han had even been established, and they continued to run rampant across the Western Regions well into its final years. Just suppressing the first major Qiang uprising cost the Eastern Han court as much as 24 billion in military expenses. It mobilized hundreds of thousands of Han troops and produced one famous general after another. Yet even so, the Qiang and Di tribes showed no sign of weakening. Their power only grew stronger. To this day, the Qiang still roam freely throughout the Western Regions, as fearsome as ever.
