Crossing the Gongchen Ferry

An ancient Grand Canal runs from the north to Hangzhou. It was dug by hand at the cost of countless lives, yet for centuries it remained fairly peaceful. A legend passed down by the older generation says that a small boat appears at midnight. If fate brings you to it and you offer a human-skin lantern as a token, you can trade aboard for any treasure you desire, whether fame and fortune, love or revenge. After a hundred years, resentments have festered in people's hearts, twisting into greed and deep, unrelenting obsessions. And so these stories begin along Hangzhou's mysterious stretch of the canal, where traditions and guardianship have endured for millennia. People battle the desires within themselves, shifting between reality and legend, traveling between past and present.
