The Setting Sun Is Unworthy of the World

This book includes Osamu Dazai's masterpieces "The Setting Sun" and "The Unworthy of the World". "The Setting Sun": As the representative work of the Japanese literary master Osamu Dazai, it is set in the chaotic Japan after World War II and describes the setting sun-like life of a declining aristocratic family. The whole text is full of helplessness and decadence. The "last lady" mother and Naoji, who was addicted to drugs and could not extricate themselves, died, leaving only the heroine Kazuko. In order to give birth to the child of her beloved, she chose to live strong and became the only light in the decadent and gloomy "Setting Sun". "Disqualification in the world": Disqualification in the world means losing the qualifications to be a human being. It consists of five parts: Preface, First Notes, Second Notes, Third Notes, and Postscript. The preface and postscript use the author's "I" tone to describe "I"'s feelings after seeing the three photos of Ye Zang. The three middle notes are narrated in the voice of the protagonist Ye Zang. The three letters correspond to the photos, respectively introducing the experiences of the timid and cowardly protagonist Ye Zang in his childhood, youth and adulthood. In order to escape from the world, he spent his whole day wandering around, paralyzing himself through alcohol, drugs, and women, and finally walking step by step towards the road of self-destruction where he lost his qualifications as a human being.
