From the Start, I Asked How to Write “Fennel Bean,” and Brought Every Foreigner to Tears

Chinese characters, the Chinese language, culture, poetry, songs, and more: it's not just about communication and answering questions.

As the country rapidly develops, Chinese crosses its borders and becomes the world's second most widely spoken language.

To demonstrate the depth of the Chinese language and prove that it isn't as easy to learn as foreigners imagine, the show Chinese Language Champions is born.

The program invites twenty foreigners fluent in Chinese and well-versed in Chinese culture to compete, with a global live broadcast.

Before answering the questions, they are full of confidence and in high spirits. But the very first listening question from Lu Jie nearly makes them cry:

Lu Jie: "How many ways are there to write the hui in huixiangdou?"

Foreigners: ???

"Your sister isn't my sister, she's your sister. So whose younger sister is she, exactly?"

Foreigners: ??????

And so, on Chinese Language Champions, Lu Jie completely brings the foreigners to tears with his questions.
