Xuanhuan: The Spirit Guide

The Heart Sutra says: "The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, while practicing the profound Perfection of Wisdom, saw that the five aggregates are empty and crossed beyond all suffering..."

The Soul Ferryman comes from the Buddhist faith and practices Buddhist teachings, yet follows no monastic rules and observes no precepts. They consort with demons and monsters, and roam alongside spirits.

All living beings suffer, and the Buddha delivers them from suffering, but not me. Thus the Soul Ferryman neither lives nor dies, knows nothing of the world's seasons, and feels neither warmth nor cold in the human realm.

The hardships of past lives vanish like smoke. They look upon the world of Jambudvipa with calm detachment, smile with a flower between their fingers, and wait for the ten directions to be reduced to nothing.
