Forgetting Hurts More Than Having Loved

I once loved a girl. She was the prettiest girl in our school, and lots of boys pursued her. She hated boys who smoked. One day, she caught me smoking at the school shop, and from then on she decided I was a bad kid and never spoke to me again. One thing she said that day completely changed my life. Maybe it was fate, or maybe the heavens were playing tricks on us, but something always seemed to keep us from crossing paths at the right time. After a serious illness, she lost her memory, and all her memories were washed away like rain. But I kept protecting her, right up to old age.
