Myth: The Sculptor and the Wood-Carved Fairy

Synopsis

Long ago, there was a clever craftsman named Yuan Sheng. Though still young, he had mastered the art of carving. The figures he carved looked lifelike. One year, he was commissioned to carve statues for a local temple. After finishing a statue of a fairy, he accidentally cut his finger with his carving knife while polishing it. His blood dripped onto the statue and was immediately absorbed by the fragrant wood. To his surprise, the fairy carved from that wood absorbed his blood and gained a spirit. And so began the story of a mortal and a wooden fairy.
