A Chilly Night in the Jianghu

In the early years of the Republic of China, disaster struck the Liu family, and two brothers were set adrift in the martial world. The elder, Liu Ziwen, became a notorious bandit in the Northeast, while his younger brother, Liu Ziwu, became a legendary leader of the martial world. The brothers weathered the storms together, roaming the jianghu for decades and carving out a turbulent life among its heroes and outlaws.

What is the jianghu?

A three-foot sword, untouched by the mortal world, is not the jianghu.

An eighteen-foot spear, still gleaming coldly, is not the jianghu.

The jianghu is its people and their affairs.

The lofty halls of the court and the distant reaches of the jianghu are all but passing clouds amid the bustle of the mortal world.

Rain falls over the jianghu, misty and cold.

Tears fill the jianghu, drowned in wine and carefree abandon.

The jianghu is rife with grudges and tangled romances. Those four simple words conceal an endless cycle. Once you enter the jianghu, you have no choice. Those who live in it can only sigh at their lot!
