Dark Journey to the West: The Most Unruly Tang Sanzang

Sun Wukong recalled how, back then, beneath the Five Elements Mountain, Tang Sanzang had stood up to the Tathagata's six-character mantra and burned the mountain to the ground.

Then he grabbed Sun Wukong by the neck and gave him two choices: accompany him to the Western Heaven,

or be sent straight to the Western Heaven.

Along the pilgrimage, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing said to their senior brother, "Oh no, oh no! Master has gone on another killing spree!"

Sun Wukong rode his somersault cloud and hurried to grab Tang Sanzang. "Master, stop killing! Stop killing! That's the old Lord's ox. Oh, that one's a bodhisattva's mount. And that one over there is definitely off-limits: it's the Buddha's peacock!"

Tang Sanzang said, "Hah! I don't care where these monsters came from. Behold my mighty Heavenly Dragon!"

After Tang Sanzang spent the whole journey burying Heaven, Earth, and all living beings, later generations honored him with the name "Tang the Three Burials!"
