A World-Toppling Tale: Vermilion Bird

In her previous life, she destroyed her family's century-old empire.

In this life, she met someone.

They were childhood friends who had grown up together, allies who fought side by side on the battlefield, lovers who were inseparable, and suspicious, wary rulers of the highest rank. Their affection, their devotion, even their promises, were hard-won and harder still to hold on to.

Shedding the dust of worldly splendor, she smiled for him alone and listened to the gentle flow of time.

Tears stained her beauty red. Though he was just within reach, she did not look back, watching idly as clouds gathered and dispersed.

Time flew by. The red candles burned down in a single night, and all she knew was that her black hair had turned gray.

The world changed beyond recognition. Red flowers fell along the road, and on the road to the Yellow Springs, they never met again.
