When Immortals and Demons launched simultaneously across all the gods' servers, veteran player Lin Mu entered the game, only to unexpectedly become a locust tree.
Then Lin Mu discovered that the mountain beneath him was called Black Mountain, and the temple nearby was called Lanruo Temple...
Oh, and there were a few inexplicable legendary figures, like his sworn friend Ning Caichen, the roguish hero Xu Hanwen, and the man-machine fusion Sakurai Tomo... Ahem, no, that last one isn't there. I haven't watched that, honest.
Wait, hold on. There's also someone claiming to be the father of Wukong, who has achieved unity between heaven and man. Oh my god, the world's unsolved mystery has finally been solved!
