Kamijo Kai is a fifteen-year-old third-year middle school student who is keen on playing the online game Digimon. He's curious, somewhat straightforward, and utterly ordinary.
After an accident brings him together with Dorumon, they encounter a Digimon in danger while being pursued by Abei. Dorumon nearly loses its life protecting Kai. At the critical moment, a strange middle-aged man hands Kai an Arc Machine. Kai soon becomes Dorumon's partner, using the Arc Machine to evolve Dorumon into Dorugamon and defeat the enemy. Through a twist of fate, he ends up joining the Digimon Hunting Team.
Together with Raido and Abei, he tackles Digimon incidents.
