Shangguan Kaiyi, a third-year middle school student, is a 15-year-old boy with an ordinary personality. He's keen on the online game Digimon, full of curiosity, and a little straightforward.
After an accident, he meets Dorumon. While being pursued by Yabei, he encounters a Digimon in danger. Dorumon nearly loses its life protecting Kaiyi. At the critical moment, a strange middle-aged man gives Kaiyi an Arcogear. Kaiyi soon becomes Dorumon's partner and uses the Arcogear to evolve it into Dorugamon and defeat the enemy. By a twist of fate, he ends up joining the Digimon Hunting Team.
Together with Rider and Yabei, he resolves Digimon incidents.
