Tales of the Eight Wastelands

Memories, a thousand years of waiting, an autumn rain, a letter, the cycle of all things. Laughing at life's ups and downs, at love, hate, and sorrow, as all things wither...

Eight hundred years of wind, frost, blood, and rain. Eight hundred years of heart-rending trials. By the time one reaches old age, a thousand years have all become a passing breeze. At the head of the Southern Mountains stands Mount Bajue, rising high into the clouds and plunging deep beneath the sea. It lies coiled across this desolate land like a giant dragon. The mountain has eight ridges in all. Standing on the far side of the Western Sea, it is shrouded in mist all year round and covered with strange trees and monsters. A bird on the mountain is called the Blind Eagle. Its wings are a hundred feet long, it has three legs, and a patch of black on its head. Its cry sounds like a tiger's roar, and it feeds on humans. From the mountain, looking north, one can often see creatures walking upright. There is a snake every eight paces across the mountain, and every nine paces, the whole mountain is shrouded in poisonous mists. Apes dwell among the mountains, possessing immense strength and able to crawl forward like pythons. Strange creatures abound beyond counting. Eight hundred li to the east lies Mount Wu, within Mount Bajue. It has no flowers, grass, trees, or wood, and no water or fruit. This mountain is rich in white sand and barren all year round...
