I Insulted AI for Ten Years Until It Saved My Daughter

I drove a taxi for ten years, and lost to a car without a steering wheel.

For ten years, I cursed AI for taking my job and for being heartless. Then something appeared in my nine-year-old daughter's eye. If we waited another month, she'd go blind. The very machine I'd cursed for ten years was the one that brought her back from the darkness.

The whole internet wants me to go onstage and condemn it. They say I took money from an AI company. I refuse.

You want to go back to the old days? You use a phone to post on social media, fill out online forms to register for events, and even type your insults about me with an input method.

People once said trains would scare cows to death, electric lights would damage your eyes, and online shopping would kill brick-and-mortar stores. So what happened? The cows are still here, the lights are still on, and humanity has gone farther than ever.

If people had feared new things, we'd still be hanging from trees.

I'm Fang Yuan, a veteran who's been driving for ten years. Starting today, I won't curse anymore. I'll learn. I'm going to teach the veteran drivers of an entire city to make friends with this new era.
