I Freak Out at Work, and My Boss Goes Crazy

After working overtime until three in the morning, Ning Zhi collapses onto her keyboard and dies.

When she wakes up, she's become the sacrificial female side character in a melodramatic novel she once skimmed: she does the most work, takes the blame for everything, and finally jumps from the rooftop on her first work anniversary.

This time, she's done playing along.

Her boss makes empty promises? She serves up an even bigger pie and smacks it right back at him. Her supervisor steals credit? She throws the data down with a loud smack. Forced overtime? In front of two hundred people, she tags HR and reads out the labor laws, clause by clause. Pressured to drink at a business dinner? She flips the table and slaps the bill in front of her boss: everyone pays their own share, and nobody owes anyone anything.

Someone tells her to put up with it. She smiles. "Put up with it and you'll get ovarian cysts; take a step back and you'll get breast hyperplasia. Instead of turning all that stress inward, I'd rather go crazy and make it everyone else's problem."

From a lowly employee trampled underfoot to a marketing director who can silence an entire corporation; from a scapegoat at everyone's mercy to a winner who roots out corrupt executives, she doesn't wait for anyone to hand her an umbrella. She punches a hole straight through the rainy sky herself.

Gu Yancheng, the man on the top floor who once existed only in spreadsheets, goes from watching her make a scene through the glass to shielding her from attacks both open and covert. He says only, "From now on, I'm here. No one will bully you again."
