Siheyuan: It All Began the Year I Took Over the Old Courtyard

After his father died suddenly, seventeen-year-old Shen Yan inherited half of the east wing of Fuxing Courtyard. All the neighbors in the compound were waiting to take advantage of the mess he'd been left with.

In his previous life, he worked as a real estate appraiser and died in a dispute over a demolition. Given another chance at life, he knew every major turning point of the Reform and Opening-Up era inside out.

He protected the rights to privately owned homes, exposed the neighbors' moral blackmail, and seized wave after wave of opportunities in home appliances, housing reform, and old-town preservation.

Starting as an apprentice at a steel mill, he built his fortune as a self-employed businessman, took on historic building restoration, and weathered the tide of demolitions.

He protected the old house and revitalized the hutong. The orphan everyone had looked down on ended up buying the entire Mao'er Hutong.

Shen Yan's story begins when he takes over this old courtyard house...
