Whisperer of the Dead

A story about the Southern Song dynasty's legendary detective Song Ci, whose judgments were nothing short of divine. According to the Records of Lin Ting, Song Ci “during the Shaoding era, received an official warrant from arrest commissioner Chen Xie and was assigned to join Commander Li in suppressing the Ting bandit rebellion... In recognition of his achievements, he was recommended and appointed magistrate of Changting County.” Research published by the Fujian Provincial Party History and Local Records website clearly states: “More than seven hundred years ago, in the fifth year of the Shaoding era, 1232, Song Ci was transferred from assistant magistrate of Xinfeng County in Jiangxi to serve as magistrate of Changting County in Tingzhou.” In the fourth year of the Shaoding era, 1231, Song Ci was still taking part in suppressing the bandit uprising in Tingzhou. That year, the peasant army led by Yan Toutuo rose in rebellion in Tingzhou. Song Ci was recommended for his “major contributions as an adviser,” and the following year he took office as magistrate of Changting County. This novel and its characters are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to actual people or events is purely coincidental. Do not imitate.
