Siheyuan: Hard Work Pays Off, and Jia Zhangshi Gets Taken Away

In a Beijing courtyard in 1952, young Li Hongbing and his older sister had only just endured the pain of losing their father when Jia Zhangshi began spreading rumors throughout the courtyard that the siblings were cursed and brought death to their relatives.

This time, though, she had picked a fight with someone who would not simply keep his head down and swallow his anger. Li Hongbing had just acquired a Heaven Rewards Diligence System. Practicing the Eight-Section Brocade or washing and sorting vegetables could earn him experience and rewards, making him stronger by the day. Jia Zhangshi had been slapped and struck with a broom right in front of everyone. Before she could kick up a fuss and take revenge, the boy went straight to the police station and filed a report that crushed her for good. Yi Zhonghai, the courtyard manager who had always favored the Jia family, was humiliated in front of the entire courtyard, while Jia Dongxu was so frightened under the barrel of a gun that he wet himself on the spot.

But Jia Zhangshi was far from the only source of corruption in the courtyard. Yi Zhonghai was still set on using a courtyard-wide meeting to put the Li family in their place. Xu Fugui and Liu Haizhong each had their own schemes, and Yan Bugui was also eager to take the courtyard manager's position. Fortunately, Li Hongbing was content to diligently learn his craft from the master chef at Fengzeyuan and wait for the System to reward him with rice, cash, and ginseng whenever his skills advanced. Meanwhile, he could see what would happen to the next fool who came looking for trouble.
