Siheyuan: I Make China's Railway the World's Best

In 1958, a railway engineer from the future is reborn as Yan Jiecheng, the eldest son of the Yan family next door.

Having just graduated from middle school without getting into high school, he can only earn money by doing odd jobs dismantling railway tracks. Yan Bugui, meanwhile, keeps nagging him to pay for his keep.

But the railway work that others find grueling and exhausting is the trade Yan Jiecheng knows best.

Starting as a track worker at a steel mill, he uses decades of engineering expertise from the future to contribute to railway design, construction, and technical management, gradually making his way into the heart of the nation's railway industry.

Later, Yan Jiecheng leads the Beijing-Tianjin passenger rail line project, helps bring high-speed railway theory into practice, and drafts multiple design standards for subways, national railways, and high-speed railways.

He eventually becomes chief railway engineer, helps modernize the country's railways, and proposes the Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal railway network plan.
