War of Resistance: Kill Enemies to Earn Merits, Storm the City of Taiyuan

Kong Hao transmigrated into a special forces soldier and witnessed the Independent Regiment's devastating defeat in a sneak attack by Yamamoto's Special Forces. As Li Yunlong and Kong Jie argued over who would take the blame, he stepped forward. "Yamamoto Kazuki was my senior. I know how to break this tactic."

That night, Kong Hao slipped out of the garrison and shot a Japanese lance corporal in the head. The Enemy-Kill Merit System activated. One merit point could be exchanged for twenty Type 38 rifles, two ZB vz. 26 machine guns, or five thousand rounds of ammunition. He spent twenty-three points on eighty rifles, twenty-four thousand pistol rounds, two hundred kilograms of pork, and five hundred kilograms of grain, then drove off in a captured Japanese truck, loaded to the brim.

As Kong Jie searched the mountains with Shen Quan, they spotted a Japanese truck racing toward them from a distance. Just as Kong Jie was about to order his men to open fire, Kong Hao leaned out of the cab. "Regimental commander, don't shoot! I've brought back meat!"

That night, the Independent Regiment ate pork stewed with glass noodles. The soldiers' hands shook as they held their bowls. "We haven't smelled meat in three years." Kong Hao shoveled down his food, calculating: the Merit System still had fifteen points left, enough to trade for another eight hundred jin of grain. He looked toward Taiyuan. "We'll eat our fill first, then fight. Once I wipe out Yamamoto's Special Forces, I'll tear down Taiyuan's city walls next."
