Pokemon: Why Are All My Beast Companions Lovecraftian?

After transmigrating into the Pokemon world, why is his beast companion an Old One?

When he accepts that "egg" from Professor Oak, his smile freezes.

"Are you sure this thing is an 'Indescribable Egg'? It's not some new variety of Togepi?"

While others cheer over catching a rare Pokemon, his companions are already whispering in his ear.

While the Champion's Charizard cuts an imposing figure, his companion can make flames twist into bizarre patterns.

"My Pokemon are unseen, unheard, and untouchable..."

"They call me a 'Wraith Tamer,' a heretic, a threat to the world."

"They don't understand. I just strayed a tiny bit from the path of raising pets."

"And, while I'm at it, I'll get those ancient gods to serve as my mounts or something."
