A Meeting of Minds: I Can Foresee Every Diagnosis

The day Zhao Hansheng was fired, no one believed him when he said there was a problem with the medical implant.

A medical AI named Lingxi resides within him. It can predict complications from CT scans and trace infections backward by examining bone surfaces. He took on revision surgeries that no one else in the hospital dared to touch. Across thirty-one consultations, there were zero infections, while the orthopedic department's infection rate for the same period was 3.7%.

At a hospital affairs meeting, Ma Guoliang slammed the table: "An unregistered employee practicing medicine illegally!"

Fang Xin fired back with the figures: "Your infection rate was 3.7% for three years. He had zero infections."

Fu Yaoguang placed the electron microscope report in the middle of the room: "The implant was sterilized a second time, damaging its coating. That surgery half a year ago wasn't a mistake in technique."

Wen Ningxue handed him a document in the emergency department corridor. It was the approval for a subspecialty in emergency orthopedics. Director Chen, Fang Xin, and the head of nursing had all signed it. Only Ma Guoliang's signature was missing. She looked at him and said, "Ma Guoliang hasn't signed it, but he hasn't opposed it either. This is the first time he hasn't objected to one of my proposals."

On the day the emergency orthopedics department opened, a chemical tanker overturned, injuring eleven people.

A line of text appeared from Lingxi: "The assessment has begun. The subject isn't you, but these four words: emergency orthopedics."
