Gu Hanqu was the lowliest servant in the Firewood and Water Courtyard of Qixia Sect. One rainy night, while clearing a drainage channel, he found a black clay basin covered in cracks in the mud of a mountain stream. Anything placed inside would be "duplicated" overnight into a purer version: muddy water became spirit spring water, inferior rice turned into jade grain, cracked pills gained pill markings, and a dull axe transformed into a magical tool. But the more heaven-defying the effect, the more hidden the price: it only worked under the moonlight, the basin's power was limited, living creatures could not withstand it, and traces of its aura would remain. One careless move could bring an investigation and a deadly disaster.
Gu Hanqu dared not draw attention to himself, so he used every enhancement just to "stay alive": secretly hoarding spirit rice, improving medicinal dregs, befriending marginal pill apprentices, transferring to the alchemy room, and climbing the ranks by taking advantage of the sect's rules. But the sect was no safe haven. The servant foremen, outer-sect disciples, alchemy-room stewards, and the rivalries among the peaks all watched where the resources went. And that broken basin was certainly no ordinary relic from the mortal world.
While everyone still saw him as an ant they could crush at any moment, this boy from the very bottom had already made up his mind: If the immortal sect only respects resources and strength, then he would start with one basin and one measure of rice, and quietly grow into someone no one could touch.
