The Whole Army Is Alive, Yet I'm Copying the Fallen Soldiers' Names

On a rainy night at the frontier, military clerk Xin Heng received a casualty report.

But all 372 people on the list were still alive. Some were out on night patrol, some were cooking, and one had just finished writing a letter home.

Even more terrifying, the last name listed as dead was Xin Heng’s own.

From that moment on, he knew this wasn’t a mistake. Someone had arranged the entire army’s deaths in advance: skimming military rations, altering casualty reports, and falsifying battle honors, all while accounting for living people as if they were dead.

Others fought the enemy with blades and guns. Xin Heng investigated the accounts and overturned false verdicts with a pen.

Whoever wrote the living down as dead would have to pay back this blood debt.

Before the entire army truly perished, he had to rewrite the casualty list.
