Countdown to Leaving the Industry: I Win Over the Internet with Chinese Style

Shen Zhiyi, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, is packaged by her agency as a "tacky porcelain doll." When she makes a surprise debut on the nationwide variety show Star Spectacle, she is greeted from the start by a cold-faced mentor, ostracized teammates, and a flood of online haters demanding she quit. Just as she is about to be eliminated, the Chinese Aesthetics Resonance System awakens: by using authentic traditional skills to stir the audience’s emotions, she can unlock lost scores, movement techniques, makeup and styling, and stage storytelling abilities.

While others build public personas, manufacture celebrity pairings, and buy trending spots, she sings Kunqu opera mixed with electronic music onstage, transforms battle costumes with Suzhou embroidery, and uses shadow puppetry to tell stories of women. The internet goes from "Why hasn’t she left yet?" to "Sis, please weld intangible heritage onto that stage for good!" Her mentor changes their tune, brands scramble to sign her, haters switch sides, and even a famously aloof movie star votes for her on livestream.

But as she rises to the top, the System warns her: true resonance isn’t applause, but bringing forgotten civilizations back to life. On the night of the finale, the powers behind the show prepare to steal her ideas and erase the names of the inheritors. Shen Zhiyi takes the biggest stage of all, determined to upend the entertainment industry’s entire traffic-driven rulebook with an unrepeatable showcase of Chinese aesthetics.
