Three Kingdoms: Guan Yu's Rebellious Son Foresees the Disaster at Maicheng

Guan Lin, Guan Yu's fourth son, is history's most infuriatingly unfilial child. To everyone else, his father is a Martial Saint. To him, his old man is a directionally challenged, conceited, emotionally clueless ticking time bomb who could ruin the whole family: "Crossing five passes and slaying six generals? He was lost. Slaying Yan Liang? A cheap shot. 'With no women in your heart, your blade becomes divine'? He just gave up after Cao Cao stole the woman he loved!"

Zhou Cang tearfully complains, "Fourth Young Master says learning martial arts can't save the Han!" Mi Fang and Fu Shiren are strung up and beaten by him, while Sun Quan's daughter gets pregnant with his child, prompting an envoy from Jiangdong to block the gates and demand an explanation. Guan Yu is so furious that the veins in his forehead bulge. "I've spent my whole life building a reputation. How did I end up with such an unfilial son?"

But Guan Lin is more clear-eyed than anyone: it's the twentieth year of Jian'an, and in five years his father will carelessly lose Jingzhou and flee to Maicheng. He burns the signal towers and beats Mi Fang, dismantling the dangers ahead one step at a time. While Zhuge Liang is still writing "The peerless and extraordinary Man with the Magnificent Beard" to flatter him, Guan Lin has already set fire to Guan Yu's pride. He'll gladly be the unfilial son, if only to let his proud father live long enough to see the Han restored.
