Heir to the Celestial Master

When Lin Yuan was three, Daoist Taixu, an heir to the Celestial Masters' Way on Zhongnan Mountain, judged him to be doubly doomed: an ill-fated loner and marked for an early death. The Heavenly Dao had placed a lock on his lifespan, and he would not live past twenty-seven. This is no simple matter of fatalism, but a precise destiny chart calculated through feng shui and divination: his Eight Characters are entirely Yin, a baleful star occupies his life palace, and his natal star shines dimly. Yin and Yang have been at war within him for over twenty years, and could collapse at any moment.

Using the Seven-Star Life-Extending Lamp, Daoist Taixu stole twenty years of life for him, but the remedy only treated the symptoms. Lin Yuan has no choice but to travel across the mountains and rivers of China and seek out masters of the esoteric arts, hoping to find a true way to defy fate: the legendary methods of "altering the dragon vein," "moving the stars," and "borrowing the fortune of mountains and rivers to extend one's life."

Lin Yuan's origins bring to light a Daoist secret spanning two thousand years. The "Immortal Seat in the Clouds" tomb that Zhang Liang divined for himself on Zifang Mountain in Xuzhou was, in truth, the lifeline of the Celestial Masters' Way. Eight generations later, Zhang Daoling used the fortune of this place to found the Celestial Masters' Way. Now, two thousand years on, the power of this dragon vein is nearly spent, and Lin Yuan's bloodline is the only key to reawakening this ancestral dragon vein.
